Sportsman's dinner a Knockout

The Warrington Masonic Lodges held their 16th Annual Gentleman's Evening on Friday 3rd February raising money for our children's charity JUMP. The main event was after dinner speaker and WBC Welterweight Champion of the World John H. Stracey giving an after dinner talk about his life, how he started from one of the most successful boxing clubs, Bethnal Green, competing in the Olympics in 1968 and how preparation for these Olympics (training at altitude) helped him defeat Jose Napoles in his own 'backyard' in Mexico City in 1975 to win the WBC Welterweight title.

Also on the card, was comedian Venn Tracey who was certainly on form and had the audience entertained with his quick wit and jokes. A charity auction and raffle was held to raise money and John helped with proceedings by leading the auction and auctioning off some of his boxing memorabilia which contributed to raising over £2000 from the auction alone.

All in all the whole night was fantastic and was an amazing success for JUMP who is, and always will be, extremely grateful to The Warrington Masons for organising and holding this great event, and also everybody involved who attended the night and helped raise money for a very worthy charity. Thank you.

The evening was finished off on a high, with special thanks to John H. Stracey, when John spent time for pictures and chatted with the JUMP team sharing more moments of his amazing career. Thank you John.
